Hamelin Bay 2013 Chardonnay

5 stars

“In my book, the Hamelin Bay 2013 Chardonnay is one of the best Margaret River chardonnays to come my way this year. It’s brassy gold, has citrus and jasmine scents and has intense ripe nectarine front-palate flavour. The middle palate has fig, melon, nougat and cashew oak and mineral-edged acid show at the finish. Drink with Atlantic salmon and prawn paella.”

Hamelin Bay 2012 Reserve Shiraz

5 stars

The Hamelin Bay 2012 Reserve Shiraz is a wine of lovely balance, with 14.3 per cent alcohol, berry pastille scents and plush ripe plum flavour on the front of the palate. Blackcurrant, dark chocolate and licorice fruit characters integrate with nutty oak on the middle palate and the finish has spearminty tannins. Drink with: fillet of beef with béarnaise sauce.”

Hamelin Bay 2012 Rampant Red

“This Hamelin Bay 2012 Rampant Red is a blend of 48 per cent shiraz, 41 per cent merlot and 11 per cent cabernet sauvignon, has 14.5 per cent alcohol and shines garnet in the glass. Is has cassis scents, juicy mulberry front-palate flavour, cherry, mocha coffee, spice and savoury oak on the middle palate and chalky tannins at the finish. Drink with: osso bucco. 4.5 stars”

Hamelin Bay Rose

4.5 stars

“Based on merlot, the Hamelin Bay 2015 Margaret River rose is salmon pink, has rose petal scents and zips onto the front palate with vibrant strawberry flavour. Glace cherry, cloves and spice characters integrate on the middle palate and steely acid refreshes at the finish. Drink with: prawn and whitebait fritters.”
