TECHNICAL NOTES
Awards: 4 ½ stars 91 points James Halliday’s 2006 Wine Companion.
Region: 100% five Ashes Vineyard, Margaret River.
Colour: Pink red hue with dark red centre.
Bouquet: Dense and subdued, needing time to really open up. Aromas of smoky white pepper, menthol and chocolate boysenberry are melded with clove spice derived from perfectly matched French Oak.
Palate: Restrained and tight knit, the palate is built to age with excellent intensity and focuses around the mid palate, and a great persistence of flavour. The finish is currently dry with tannins slightly obtrusive, however, in three to four years, integration of oak, and softening of tannins will lift the Five Ashes Shiraz to the next level.
